Some people post anything… in 1 football group this guy is saying Ken Anderson should have been NFL MVP in 1975 over Fran Tarkenton to explain why Ken should be in Canton. Sorry but I had to let him have it…“Time to make the donuts… wait a minute on denigrating a Hall of Famer in Fran Tarkenton also to make this point. Now I argue the merits of a potential PFHOF player vs another but never insults to put the enshrined player down. Where should Ken Anderson have been the MVP over Fran Tarkenton in ’75 as you claim?
- Tarkenton 273 of 425 for 2994yds 25 TDs 13 ints (64.5% comp rate)
- Anderson 228 of 377 for 3169 yds 21 TDs 11 ints (60.5% comp rate)
Wasnt Anderson known for passing titles and completion percentage? Fran was completing passes at a greater clip. They’re respective passer rating was Anderson 93.92 vs 91.83 for Sir Francis.
Anderson led the Bengals to an 11-3 wildcard berth but Tarkenton in 1975 had the Vikings start out 10-0 in a season following back to back NFC Championships/Super Bowl appearances. Then in the season finale he threw his 291st TD against Buffalo to become the NFL’s All time touchdown leader breaking Johnny Unitas’ record. That video was shown all around the country by Brent Musberger after all the games concluded with America watching.
So Tarkenton began the year in the nation’s conscious if he could get back to the Super Bowl…was talk of the league during his 10-0 start and then broke one of the most hallowed records as the season concluded as an exclamation mark that everyone saw. All while chasing the white whale of a Super Bowl championship that alluded him in two successive seasons. This also in a season when OJ Simpson (HOFer) had his best season with 2,243 yards (1817 rush / 426 rec) combined and his breaking Gale Sayers record with touchdowns in a season with 23. 1973 for Simpson was his most famous season but ’75 cemented his legacy and sent him to Canton. He was on the #1 offense in football and led the NFL in rushing… not to mention Chuck Foreman‘s 22TDs…
Please tell me again how Anderson should have been NFL MVP? Show me with distinction he even held the nation’s attention in the Bengals 75 season?? Any feats?? Any touches of greatness during that season?”
Crazy takes like the one I went after here are why I can’t play in all football sandboxes…

The Ken Anderson for the HOF cheerleaders have been out in full force on FB for several years now. They believe he should be inducted because he had 3 good years and one MVP year out of 16 seasons, smh….
Ken Anderson was a good QB to me but not a Hall of Famer. Winning innocuous passing titles isn’t a feat of greatness. Passer rating is a measure of a quarterback but not when it comes to greatest in history. Its just not.
