About Jef Taylor: The Chancellor of Football – Revised

THE CHANCELLOR OF FOOTBALL

I am an independent football historian, analyst, and writer whose work connects the history of professional football with the modern NFL.

Taylor Blitz Times examines the game through historical research, player evaluation, statistics, film, strategy and original opinion — with particular attention to players, teams, and stories that mainstream coverage often overlooks.

This lifelong study of every position and every era of professional football is reflected throughout Taylor Blitz Times. You’ll see it in projects advocating for players and coaches for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, examinations of the top ten greatest defenses and teams in NFL history, and stories about the players who propelled the game forward.

The reason for this website is simple: To cover pro football from the perspective of a historian. I want to house in one arena, the history of the game along with what is going on in the NFL currently.

My editorial principles:

History matters.

Context matters. 

Evidence matters. 

Original thinking matters.

And conventional wisdom is not sacred.

In conventional media coverage, bias leans toward the glamour franchise when covering teams which minimizes references to their contributions. The NFL has been around 106 years, 32 current franchises which include the 10 year history of the American Football League.

Here everyone will be showcased. I’ll also share conjecture on what is changing within the game but not for the sake of argument, they will be fact-based to start discussions to popularize new notions. Whether we’re talking a former player who should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame or critiquing a team’s off-season moves.
